You've waited a long time to start your renovation...

Get a head start on organizing your project before you begin!

You hope, wish, plan and dream of a major renovation in your home. Then, one day, that dream comes true and you're ready to get started. Here are some important planning steps.

- **Research your ideas**

Today you can find a myriad of sources to read reviews and analyses of all the components that you might consider for your renovation. Take advantage of other consumer's research but keep your opinions and taste at the forefront.

- **Interview Contractors**

No two contractors are alike, and you should keep that in mind. There's not a 'one size fits all' when it comes to working with someone that will virtually take up residence in your home for an extended period of time. Make sure you're compatible and can work well together. For more information on costs, [check out this blog](https://www.glandsons.com/blog/how-much-does-a-home-remodel-cost-in-montclair-and-northern-nj).

- **Ask for References**

A good contractor will be more than happy to provide you with satisfied customers that will offer their experience with the contractor you're considering. What better place to start?

- **Create a Style Board**** **

Putting together a visual of fabric samples, paint color "chips", photos, etc. is a great way to visualize what your dream project will look like. Fitting a hamper, for example into a bathroom, or a recycling bin in a kitchen where real estate space is always of high value.

### So, you see....

There's much to do in planning a project, whether it's an [entire house renovation](https://www.glandsons.com/blog/personalizing-your-home-renovation) or a bathroom or kitchen remodel. And the reality is that while we hope to make our mistakes "on paper" there's always something left out. So, having a conversation with your contractor is vital to the process.
